How to join CWOP

How to join CWOP (Citizens Weather Observation Program) and the MADIS Surface Network Information

I created this help page because everything I found online is so confusing I dont see how anyone can get signed up. This is to try and make the process simple so anyone can join.

This assumes you are already on WeatherUnderground. And are using my software with the WS-1400 ObserverIP module.
Submitting data to CWOP turns you station into a MADIS station and it gets submitted everywhere just like a WS site. It may even be used by your local news.

As of v2.5 the software and this page will generate the GPS LORAN format for you using your Weather Underground GPS location. If you wish to force it to regenerate just erase your current location from the setup.txt file

Signup here at findu.com to get your ID.

Once the gps location has been generated you need to go to CWOP and verifty that the location is correct. If its not you will have to manualy adjust the GPS location.
Once your weather page shows up check your location here Location

GPS location must be in the old LORAN format. You likely already have your GPS location but that wont work with CWOP it needs a the LORAN format. If it doesnt see the GPS formatted right your data will just be ignored. This is the #1 reasion people have trouble getting data to post.

Go to this good mapping site geoplaner.com and get your GPS location from the middle box. format dd mm.mmm'

so 33 29.625N /94 49.570W would convert to 3329.62N/09449.57W [LORAN] For CWOP. Not 3329.62N/9449.57W

Notice 5 digits on the W part you have to enter a extra zero.

It really helps if you will check the format of a station near you to see if you have formated it right.
Use this map to find a station near you.

Click on your state above and select the raw packet format for that station to make sure your GPS data looks like it.

Again if you do it wrong the data will never test good on CWOP.

Once data is submitted it should show up at these URLS custimized for
All Packets | Raw Weather Packets | Weather | Current | Location

If your data doesnt show up check for bad packets showing up here.

Once you see data for a few days you have to send a email to request the account be activate. Once it activated you will see data showing up here weather.gladstonefamily.net Or this should be a direct link
